  • Providing educational and skills services to foster children.

  • Providing knowledge and getting used to religious life in the orphanage

  • Upbringing and in everyday life.

  • Facilities for growth and development, motivation and ability of parents, families and communities in the protection and development of child custody.

Partnership

A team who uplift children

Sponsorships through Mission Uplift provide for education of the children.  The major expense of Bukit Karmel is education, and education is the key to rising out of poverty, and receiving the opportunity to build a life through choice and freedom.
Other costs exist for wrap-around services like accommodation, food, and all the normal costs one might have in raising a family.   For example, transport costs are a challenge.  One of the 20yo vans needs to be replaced.  Transport is vital for access to education, activities and safety.  The roads are very average and take their toll on all transport vehicles, and the 20yo van faces increasing monthly repair costs.  These costs are met by other donors and sponsorships.
This ensure that Mission Uplift Sponsorships remain 100% dedicated to Education.  We have a number of stories that express how education makes the key difference.  And how you can partner to help write new stories of uplifting children.

How it all started

The Bukit Karmel Foundation is a service institution founded in 2002. The founder of this Social Foundation is Mrs. Mavis Pardede who is from Australia her husband, who was from North Sumatra. Mrs. Mavis Pardede had a burden and heart to serve women and children in Indonesia. The aim of opening this service was many women in Indonesia, especially those who are pregnant out of wedlock, are not well treated, with some abandoned by their families, and significant ongoing shame and cultural issues of disgrace within the family and community.

Every woman who enters the Women's Rehabilitation Center was provided with health services, accommodation, food and life skills programs. It is hoped that through the support and programs, women might return home with their baby and start a new life with hope and a future.

Education is always the key that makes a difference!

Bukit Karmel commenced as a place of shelter and safety for women, however the situation soon showed a need for accommodation for children.  An orphanage was not only for the children who were unable to return to the village, but also became a safe place for children who had been displaced by death of parents, abdonment and victims of natural disasters.

The service had humble beginnings renting houses in Sentul City area from 2002 to 2008.  From 2008, a wonderful provision of land came about in Bogor with land and buildings, and this has been the place of Bukit Karmel ever since.

Uplifting Stories

Bukit Karmel celebrated several results including Christiana, who is the first baby to grow up through Bukit Karmel. Christina graduated from Special School which offers specific educational , and has commenced working and is in transition to independence. Her job is making cakes and baking. She maintains pastoral and family contact with Bukit Karmel, and often brings cake and bake items to share.

Harrison has been selected to sit a scholarship exam sponsored by a local IT Business. Upon successful completion, Harrison will commence a Degree in IT. Harrison is very confident in being successful, as are his teachers and staff at Bukit Karmel. Harrison’s story however warms the heart because Harrison struggled with learning. During preschool and primary school, Harrison required significant additional learning support. Staff and older children would assist Harrison with reading, writing and basic maths. By his senior year at High School, Harrison is one of the top students, succeeding beyond all expectations through his developed diligence and resilience.

Little Joshua was abandoned as an infant, meaning he was found along the Railway Lines.  After 12 months of medical rehab, Joshua now lives safely at Bukit Karmel. While he cannot talk, and has delayed learning, he is loved, he belongs, and he has a family.  The opportunity to assist Joshua was shared with a local group in the Adelaide Hills, and they took the challenge to raise some money for an iPad that could operate a speech aid app. After 12 months of fund raising, Joshua received an iPad that allows you to point to icons, and the app speaks for him. This will allow Joshua to practice speaking by copying what he hears, and help him engage with learning at his school. When asked how he was feeling, Joshua pointed to an icon and the Ipad chirped – “I feel loved”!
